My name is Isabelle, I am a Mauritian philatelist. I’ve been collecting stamps for more than 30 years now. Over the past 10 years or so, I decided to focus my attention on collecting essentially Mauritian stamps, and in particular on first day covers and special/ commemorative enveloppes. I also collect mint and used stamps.
Mauritius was among the first British colonies to release postage stamps. However, as my collection grew, I must admit I found it very difficult to get a comprehensive overview of the various official first day covers, commemorative enveloppes and other special and private covers, released over the years. Although I managed to get a fairly complete listing of “official” first day covers released by the Mauritius Postal Services, there are still many special covers that I am not aware of, because there are no systematic records.
This blog is meant to help fill in this gap. It draws essentially from my own collection of first day covers, special commemorative enveloppes and private covers. The collection is of course far from complete. It is always a work in progress, but I hope philatelists and stamp lovers will find it useful.
I welcome your comments and suggestions to improve the knowledge about Mauritian stamps!
